unit 7- preparation for specialist study

Futures

Throughout Term 1-2 I have developed basic requirements within the acting industry such as observation, awareness, respect, trust and honesty. Although this is a foundation within acting, I have also developed confidence; I have always been confident but throughout my year I believe I have gained more confidence not just within acting but as a whole and this has allowed me to become more open minded. Becoming more open minded and confident has allowed me to broaden my creative side by exploring my imagination but also being able to share and collaborate my idea's with my class or the team i'm working with.

Due to teachings and secondary research I have also developed skills provided by practitioners in the likes of Stanislavski and Brecht such as:

  • staying true to my character
Meaning that when given a role, I research who my character and adapt myself to that character so I become in one with the role I've taken on.

  • being spacially aware
In terms of when performing, I use the whole stage so the performance and movement flows. Also, so my voice travels all over the room. This is another skill I have developed, during rehearsals or before the start of our lessons we have vocal warm ups to unsure that our voices are warmed up and trains us in areas such as articulation, diction and being able to respond and reciprocate.

During lesson, we were all given a chance to give each other feedback on how we that we’ve progressed this year;

  • Respectful

  • Great characterisation and understanding of character

  • Leadership skill

  • Intelligence

  • Open winded

  • Honesty

  • Out spoken

  • Looking after my team, making sure everyone’s okay

  • No fear

  • Determination

  • Range of diction and articulation

  • Confident

  • Attitude to work is good

  • Persistent

  • Focused in terms of listening and reciprocating

I am pleased with the feedback from my class as I feel appreciative that they’ve taken their times out to notice these skills I possess.

At the start of the year I had the idea that I wanted to attend a Drama school or push myself fully into the acting industry in terms of film or tv. Overtime, I have been given opportunities such as workshops or company’s coming to work with us to see what else the acting industry has to offer me such as; directing, writing plays, being back stage to the acting life or teaching. I have gained an enjoyment to directing, writing plays and teaching acting. After my first year I have changed my mind to wanting to attend university and studying drama studies in order for me to both write as I enjoy English but also act or I’d study acting. After completing my 3 years within university I would then like to take a teaching course and be able to teach drama as I enjoy the company of children but also being able to teach them everything I have been taught. If this doesn’t work out I would love to open my own theatre company where we can have shows, performances and show cases. Over this summer I have also been thinking about taking a drama course or teaching course that way I can get an insight into the working life of acting and also further my knowledge on acting.

Principles of Performance Within my first week as a class we discussed what requirements are important when becoming actors or studying acting: Observation Awareness  This is a crucial skill whilst acting as a performer you should always be aware whilst performing, whether this is spacial, vocal or overall awareness. Confidence  Confidence is a good trait for a performer, in order to continue your journey as an actor. You'll need to stand in front of your audience. Imagination/Creativity  Imagination is the key to performing, this is because throughout acting you use your imagination to create our pieces, to feed our motivation and creating a meaning/story throughout our actions. Collaboration Team work Teamwork is an essential part in Drama. Without it, no plays could be preformed and no activities could of been achieved.  Listening  Openness Vocals; Pitch, speed   We also discussed what our fears are in ter...

unit 12 extended project

Midsummers night dream  Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts I had achieve a B grade for acting in my previous studies before devoting my time towards the UAL performing arts. I am ever so proud of how much I have achieved over the last 2 years. Before starting the course, I wanted to expand my knowledge behind the history of theatre, key practitioners and their different skills and performance techniques which would help expand my skill audit e.g. Vocally, physically and theory wise. I knew I'd be able to achieve this due to attending lessons, doing researching and taking down key notes of things that I'd have learnt or had curiosity about. I would say my peers and teacher were big aspects of my journey as they taught me knew skills and helped me consistently with constructive criticism in order for me to develop. I believe this has strengthened not only my performances but also blossomed within my work. One thing I'd say I struggled with is pro...

Unit 9 developing performance and production skills

UNIT 9 PERFORMANCE PROJECT A Questmas story When being told we were given the opportunity to devise our own performance and the theme being Christmas, I believed it would be a challenge because most Christmas movies or plays are cliches. I wanted ours to be different and something we could all bring out our own ideas and personalities to create as a group. I thought of Christmas and the things Christmas had to offer, good or bad; Being with family Good food Watching Christmas movies together Christmas Jumpers  Carols  Scrooge and The Grinch Crackers and party hats  Before starting the rehearsal process for our production there were many elements we needed to research and gather. In class we were put into small groups were we would talk about ideas towards our devised piece, from plays and artwork to movies and books. First thing that came to my head when thinking about what our play could be based on was my favourite movie of all time, The Hunger games...
